The long and the short of it is if you bring 1000 delegates to Thailand for a minimum three-day conference they’ll give you one million baht to help cover local expenses. That equates to almost USD 32,000, and that kind of money isn’t anything to sneeze about. President of TCEB, Natwut Amornvivat, says the response to the program to date had been overwhelming. “We are confident that the promotion package represents a great opportunity for international associations and convention organisers to ensure the success of their events in Thailand,” Mr Natwut said. “Moreover, TCEB will continue to develop new and innovative promotional programs to serve the MICE market, and we anticipate that this will help to stimulate further growth in the convention market in Thailand and in the region.” Qualifying for the financial windfall appears to be pretty straightforward. The event must be hosted by associations, government agencies, non-profit organisations, or institutions; must have a minimum of T 20 miceAsia.net sense The Thailand ConvenTion & exhibition Bureau (TCeB) is putting its money where its mouth is to lure more business. 100 delegates (a pro-rata rate applies for conventions with fewer than 1000 delegates); the conference must be three days in length; events must end before September 30, 2009; and applications must be submitted 90 days prior to the convention. Expenses eligible for support include: local transportation, local PR and marketing, venue rental, social functions, and the service fee for a local organiser. To apply log onto www.tceb.or.th and fill in the quick online form to let TCEB know more about your convention and your organisation. Once you receive the request for proposal form via email, you must complete and return it. An approval letter will then be emailed to you within 10 days of receipt of the RFP. For reimbursement organisers must then provide TCEB with a copy of the letter of approval from TCEB; provide a report of the convention with the list of delegates (including their names and country); certified copies of invoices for the qualifying expenses to be reimbursed; and convention photography and marketing materials.
