SKYE SHERWOOD DIRECTOR OF EVENTS – MACAU OFF SITE CONNECTIONS EVENT MANAGEMENT What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a film director. Your first job? A freelance props and wardrobe assistant. Your first pay packet? AUD70 per hour. Your first break? Working full time with a Sydney-based company called Cyclops Films. Describe your current role? I am opening an office in Macau as director of events for Off Site Connections Event Management. Off Site Connections has seven offices across Australia, China and Singapore, and now Macau is lucky number eight. The best part of your job? Having a good balance between corporate and creative. The worst: Working with tight budgets when you want to create more. You best quality? I’m adventurous. Your worst? Being impatient. Your best achievement? Making a success of my last couple of years living in Dubai (both personally and professionally). Where do you want to be in 10 years’ time? Back home in Australia with my own events company and a family. Skye Sherwood was previously the regional account director for an international marketing communications agency based in Dubai. Beginning her career in Australia she has a background in marketing and promotions, advertising and corporate events, and was most recently delivering events in the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Pakistan and the United Kingdom. In 2007 she produced more than 60 events across the region, and is looking forward to developing and growing the market in the new and exciting emerging MICE destination of Macau. Mr Mather-Brown has vast experience in exhibition and facilities management, in-depth knowledge in audio-visual, information technology (IT) and general logistics in the conventions arena. In his role as deputy general manager, Mr Mather-Brown is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the centre and maximising the existing resources of the audio-visual/technical services, catering, event co-ordination and exhibition services. Choong Kit Siong has been promoted to Crowne Meetings Director (CMD) of Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur. Working at the hotel since October 2006 he has played an integral role in terms of positioning the hotel as “The Place to Meet” through successful conversion and running of large-scale corporate meeting groups. In his role as CMD, Kit is responsible for driving catering revenue as well as corporate meetings group business. VERONIKA TARIGAN ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SALES INTERCONTINENTAL BALI RESORT MILA VERANI WIDJAYA SILABAN DIRECTOR OF SALES INTERCONTINENTAL BALI RESORT Mila Verani Widjaya Silaban (Mila) has been appointed director of sales of InterContinental Bali Resort, based in Jakarta. She is a graduate of the Nusa Dua Hotel and Tourism Institute of Bali and has a solid sales background, working for several reputable hotels and service-related companies in roles that have taken her across Indonesia. Veronika Tarigan (Vika) has been appointed associate director of sales of InterContinental Bali Resort, based in Jakarta. Ms Tarigan is a tourism graduate from Medan and has 11 years’ experience in hotel sales and travel planning. LILA ALFA FEBRIANI SALES COORDINATOR INTERCONTINENTAL BALI RESORT LINDSAY WHITE GENERAL MANAGER AUSTRALIA ETIHAD AIRWAYS Lila Alfa Febriani (Fani) has been appointed sales coordinator of the InterContinental Bali Resort, based in Jakarta. Ms Febriani began her career as a sales secretary and worked her way through the ranks to her most recent promotion. SAMUEL G. GACOS DIRECTOR OF SALES AND MARKETING GHM HOTELS Lindsay White has been appointed general manger in Australia of Etihad Airways. He replaces Cramer Ball who has been promoted to regional general manager Asia Pacific South and Australasia. Mr White brings 26 years of industry experience to his role, having started his career with British Caledonian Airways in 1982 as a sales executive in his native Scotland. He held various senior managerial roles at British Airways before joining Gulf Air in 2005 as its general manager in Malaysia and Brunei. He later worked as country manager Malaysia for Etihad Airways. Samuel G. Gacos has been appointed director of sales and marketing at GHM Hotels, Bali. A Philippine national, Mr Gacos brings with him 16 years of extensive experience and networking within the hospitality industry, of which 11 years has been in the field of sales and marketing and business development. After beginning his career at The Manila Hotel, he joined Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort & Spa in 1997, fulfilling the role of international sales manager. Over the next nine years, he moved up the ladder driving travel trade, corporate and MICE business in various positions.
