Mice Asia Net : January 2010
miceAsia.net 11 news attract established marquee trade events and to expand the MICE market for Singapore by attracting new shows," said vice president for sales of Marina Bay Sands, Arthur Chernov recently. New shows that will debut at Marina Bay Sands include the Industrial Fabrics Association International Expo Asia 2011 trade show, the first major textile event catered for the Asian audience. Todd Lindemann, vice president of IFAI, the company behind this event, believes that Marina Bay Sands will be an exciting location for the expo. "The design of the facility is absolutely breathtaking. The broad array of entertainment found on the premises is sure to attract even more attendees," he said. Other firsts include the Art Stage Singapore 2011 and 2012; Dye+Chem Asia International Expo 2010 and 2012; Sound Light Visual (SLV) Expo 2010; Offshore Asia 2011; the IEEE P802, an engineering conference that will take place in 2011; AAMA-TEX 2010; Aerospace Supplier eXchange 2011; Gaming Expo Asia; Glasstech Asia; Hospital Build 2010; iProperty Expo 2010; INVEST Fair 2010; ProcessCem Asia 2010; POWER-GEN Asia; PS Asia 2010, HVAC Asia 2010; Singapore International Jewellery Show; Singapore Gifts & Stationery Show 2010; Sea Asia 2011, The Wedding Diary Asia 2010 and World Engineering Education Forum. Resorts World at Sentosa will include six on-site hotels encompassing 1800 rooms, a Universal Studios, the Marine Life Park, the Maritime Experiential Museum, the Equarius Water Park, and gaming. In terms of meeting space, facilities will be vast. It is estimated that Resorts World Sentosa will be able to host approximately 12,000 delegates in three venues: Le View Showroom/plenary hall (1600 theatre-style), a massive ballroom (7300 theatre-style), plus almost 3400 delegates in another 22 meeting rooms. No doubt there will be plenty of announcements from Resorts World at Sentosa on events secured for the destination in the near future. KL's offering Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa in Kuala Lumpur is another property that is described by management as an integrated resort. While it doesn't have a casino it does have plenty of other facilities to keep conference delegates amused for days on end. The 800 acre property has a collection of hotels, conference and convention centres, a Balinese-inspired spa, the super dance club Ministry of Sound - EUPHORIA at Sunway Lagoon Resort, a theme park, a mega shopping and entertainment mall, medical centre, educational facilities, and a multitude of distinctive convention, business and leisure facilities. For the MICE segment it offers 10,000 square metres of meeting space. The Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, located next to the Pyramid Tower Hotel and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, is connected to the hotels by an air-conditioned passageway providing simple accessibility for event delegates and organisers. The flagship of the development is the five-star premier Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa that offers a collection of 441 well-appointed and newly renovated guestrooms and suites. Group general manager of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Denis Gruhier, says the property is popular with the corporate and association market. "For example, we were the chosen destination for the International Association of Educators for World Peace, where its 18th IAEWP World Peace Congress saw delegates attend from around the world for the three-day event," she said. "In 2009, the hotel welcomed delegates from Korea for the International Youth Federation Global Camp." Whether this property is a true integrated resort or not it seems that the IR phenomenon is here to stay. Only time will tell whether they can retain the finicky corporate and association market business long-term. Marina Bay Sands.
